ASSAM, INDIA:

De Hunwal-theeplantage ligt in het district Jorhat in de Indiase regio Assam, ten zuiden van de rivier de Brahmaputra. Een groot deel van de Assam-regio ligt op een hoogte van 300-1200 meter boven zeeniveau, waardoor de regio koelere temperaturen kent dan gemiddeld in vergelijking met andere regio's van India. Deze koele temperaturen, samen met veel regenval, versnellen de ontwikkeling van zeer rijke, sterke eigenschappen in de zwarte theebladeren.

The smokey, toasty notes come through even without milk, which I didn't expect from an Assam. Two teaspoons in a 12oz mug steeped about four minutes gives me a solid, oaky cup that holds up all morning.

I've been drinking this every morning for a week and the oaky, toasty notes really come through without turning bitter when I forget it steeping. The smokiness is subtle, not like a lapsang, and it holds up fine with a splash of milk. For the price I'll definitely be keeping a tin of this around.
